October Barndance
Another sell-out and a hugely enjoyable way of raising £678 for the charity. This year we were joined by an enthusiastic younger contingent as well as many regulars. Thanks once again to Haycorn and our caller for donating their services.

October Souperday
Thanks again to everyone who supported the Souperday on the 25th October. The event raised a super £1307.

A Tribute to Marion Jones
The last of the founder members to be still actively involved, Marion responded to an appeal in the early 1980’s by our founder, Brenda Mottershead. This resulted in the formation of an ecumenical team who developed the purpose of Wilmslow Wells for Africa. From the beginning, it was emphasised that all services were to be given free of charge. Marion was one of the four signatories when the Charity’s bank account was opened in December 1984 and she has served as a conscientious Trustee ever since.

As well as her involvement with the Charity’s project funding work, Marion always supported fund-raising events with enthusiasm. In recent years, she has sat welcoming people at the doorway during our Souperdays and Gardens Day or acted as cashier at the refreshments counter.

Her wise counsel, will be truly missed. We pay tribute to Marion’s dedication and commitment through so many years.

Marathon Fundraiser
Brian Jackson, from Windsor Avenue, Wilmslow, a 65-year old member of Macclesfield Harriers, has raised £535 by a sponsored walk and run of the Joss Naylor Challenge in the Lake District.

During the traverse between Pooley Bridge, at the north end of Ullswater and Greendale Bridge, he climbed 30 Lakeland summits while covering 48 miles. He started one midnight and completed the marathon effort in 19 hours 37 minutes – with seven minutes to spare on his schedule and well within the 24 hour limit set by his age.

Successful Gardens Day raises £7800

On Saturday 26th June over 20 gardens in Wilmslow, Handforth and Alderley Edge were opened to the public, with proceeds to Wilmslow Wells for Africa. There was the usual mix of old favourites and some spectacular new gardens. This year the sun shone and visitors turned out in numbers. With all our helpers and gardeners giving their time free and with many people generously offering refreshments and cakes, a total of over £7,800 was raised. Once more, our principal fund raising event of the year proved a great success. Thanks to all the gardeners, helpers and visitors for making this such a splendid day.

Another Gardens Day Success!

Thank you to all our loyal supporters who turned out in numbers to visit gardens and eat our sandwiches, teas and cakes. Thank you also to all our helpers who gave their time on the day to sell such items to our supporters. But, most of all, thank you to the gardeners who gave so much in the weeks/months leading up to the event to have their gardens peaking on the day. The weather was kind and we raised a thumping £7,400. Thank you again, everyone.
