Our President and Trustees
As well as enthusiasm and commitment we are fortunate in having significant experience and professional capability in our organisation, ensuring that the money we raise is used carefully and effectively.
David Cash – Chair
David has lived in Wilmslow since 1984. His first involvement with WWfA was in 2002 when he ran the London Marathon to raise funds. A few years later in 2006, he and his wife first opened their garden as part of Gardens Day, an event they have participated in from time to time ever since. When David retired as a practising architect in 2017, he took greater responsibility for Gardens Day by organising the list of participating gardens. In January 2022, David became a trustee and took over the chairmanship of Wilmslow Wells following the resignation of Jenny Gibbs.
Helen Battilana -
Helen worked as a Teaching Assistant in a Special School. She was the charity's Secretary for 11 years before becoming Chairman in 2010. Helen gained a practical insight into the charity’s work, during a holiday in Uganda, where she viewed some WWA funded water tanks near Jinja and joined the committee soon after.Together with Joyce McClure, she had the honour of representing WWA at the official opening of The Brenda Mottershead Well in The Gambia in 2001. At November’s AGM, 2015, Helen stepped down from being Chairman but will continue to be very active at the events and will remain as a Trustee.
Nick Longson -
Nick ensures that our finances are effectively managed. Nick has lived in Wilmslow for most his life but his first involvement with Wilmslow Wells was walking the Three Peaks for the charity in 2010. Having retired a few years ago, Nick worked as a Chartered Accountant for a firm of loss adjusters for 30 years and is now pleased to help as our Treasurer and as a Trustee.
David Tonks -
David is a chartered civil engineer, water and environmental specialist and geologist. With Voluntary Service Overseas in Turks & Caicos Islands he gained experience working on water projects for small villages and was involved in running a small water utility.

Joanna Southgate – former President
We lost the services of Joanna Southgate when she moved to Devon for family reasons. Formerly the charity’s Chairman for 11 years, Joanna continued to serve on the Trustee Committee as our President for a further 7 years. Her care and concern for others extended to all that she met. Her knowledge and wise counsel are sadly missed.

Why do we have a Data Policy?
Even though the information that we hold is only basic we take your privacy seriously. We have to comply with the law by telling you the following information.
What data does Wilmslow Wells for Africa hold?
We keep only the information which you have given us voluntarily. In most cases this is your name, address and phone/email details.
Who has access to the information?
Only the Trustees or members of the General Committee or members of the Gardens Day Committee, where appropriate, have access to your details. We never pass on this information to anyone else and it will kept until you ask us to remove it.
What do we need the information for?
To keep you informed about WWfA events and projects that we fund; to allow you to sign up for events or you have offered to help with an event e.g. Gardens Day or Souperday.
How is the information stored?
Our computer data base is password protected and the paper consent forms are kept under lock and key.
How do I withdraw consent?
If consent has been given online then you can simply go online and withdraw it; otherwise you may contact a Trustee or in the case of gardeners a member of the Gardens Day Committee to withdraw consent.
